Martin Spaink (Amsterdam) has earned a reputation for himself as a leading European tanpura expert. He has
explored all the finer points of tanpura playing, stringing, tuning, maintenance, restoration and playing techniques.
For many years he has enabled fellow musicians to bring out the very best in their precious instruments, no matter what condition they were found in before he took care of them.
Martin has accompanied many leading Hindustani and Carnatic performers during prestigeous European festival performances, concert tours and recordings all over Europe.
He conducts special workshops and lecture demonstrations in many places. For this he travels wherever sensitive musicians, teachers and listeners are keen on exploring the beautiful sound of India’s most important instrument – the tanpura!
