Bhushany Kalyanaraman taught vocal music at Kalakshetra College of Fine Arts in Chennai (Madras). She hails from a musical family in Sri Lanka where she sung religious music in local temples at the age of four. Her talent was noticed early and fostered accordingly.
For her advanced studies, she was sent to India at a quite young age where she was admitted at the Tamil Nadu Music College of Chennai (Madras). She studied under several famous gurus (musicians and teachers). Her husband, the famous singer Tanjavur S. Kalyanaraman, played a decisive role in her training and career as a professional singer.
Bhushany soon became a music lecturer at the University of Jaffna in northern Sri Lanka. Countless concerts, radio and television performances made Bhushany´s beautiful and agile voice, her authentic style and variegated repertoire popular with her audiences. She has received many awards for her achievements, and her concerts are known to be of a unique quality, powerful and emotionally charged.
In honour of her late husband, she founded the Kalyanaraman-Foundation which supports gifted music students in need of financial assistance.
